Abu Ubaidah ibn al Jarrah (died 639 CE) was one of the early companions of Prophet Muhammad and played a significant role in the early Islamic conquests. He was known for his piety, bravery, and loyalty to the Prophet and his religion. Abu Ubaidah was also known for his humility and kindness towards his fellow Muslims and enemies alike. He was appointed by the Prophet as the commander of the Muslim army during the Battle of Mu'tah in 629 CE, where he demonstrated his strong leadership skills. During the time of Caliph Umar's reign, Abu Ubaidah was appointed as the governor of Syria, where he is credited with preserving peace and justice in the region. He died during the plague that struck Syria in 639 CE and was buried in the vicinity of Damascus. Abu Ubaidah is considered as one of the ten companions of the Prophet who were given the glad-tidings of paradise.
